Apple or android?

I know this is not a general P.R issue but after a while working in the electronics retail sector I wanted to do a tech-related post.

With the arrival of the new media tablets, a new range of OSs has appeared. In your new ipad you get the apple mac OS, if you prefer android your choice of tablets is huge and now with the arrival of the windows 7 for tablets deciding wich one to go for is more and more difficult.

I am not going to lie, I would buy the ipad without a doubt, yes I know is restricted by the mac OS, yes I know the you can not upgrade the memory and that you can not get into flash webpages among other restrictions. I would still buy it because is the best at what it does. If what you want is to be able to have the best apps ( or any app really) you will get an ipad, the amount of apps and games available for it is the biggest in the sector and it can not be matched by android at todays date.

That is why i would get an ipad, because even though that it is restricted it does not affect the general user that just want to browse the internet and use one of the millions of apps available.

Man Vs Sportsman

After the public appearance of Tiger Woods on TV apologizing about his behavior and asking the press to leave his family alone and following all what happened with other sportsmen as John Terry and Ashley Cole it make think about all the ethics involved in this issues.

Should they be judged by what they do outside the football pitch or the golf course? In my opinion we should carefully separate the sportsman from the person. In the case of John Terry or Ashley Cole for example anyone that have played football knows that in any team this kind of things happen all the time and I think its just because of the pressure of the media and the fake moral of some people. They are famous for being good at their sports so they should be judged by their performance in the grass and not for what they do outside it.

For example I think that what Fabio Capello did to Terry its just an act of fake moral pushed by the pressure of the media, because over the years Capello had been training a number of teams where this kind of scandals happened and he never took any measure about them.

Of course that these guys are an example for a lot of young people and because of that they should try to be a good one but I still think that is the media who decided to make public something that concern the personal life of the players and that in my opinion is just a way to gain attention and produce news.

In resume I think we should separate the personal life of the players from what they do with their teams because with this what we have achieved is that the best golfer in the world and the captain of the English national team are better known for being bad husbands than for their sportive achievements.

Old P.R new media

After reading the article published on P.R week about how recruiters are having problems to find applicants cursed in new media for P.R related jobs, I was astonished with the number of people that apply to a P.R job with low or no knowledge about new media. I was so surprised because one of our most important subjects as P.R students is to know how to create and run a blog or being able to keep in touch with what is happening in the P.R community trough twitter.

Considering that just a tiny 2% of the 4.500 applications that this agency received in two years mentioned blogging as part as their C.V, I think it’s a great opportunity for students like us to make the most of our knowledge in new media and always mention our blogs and all the new media where we can be found as part of our C.Vs.

This would make us stand out over the rest of the applicants and will give us a bigger chance of getting a job.

Different speech for each audience

I want to open this blog about PR and the all the areas related to this field talking about the importance of aiming your speech to the audience you will talk to.
After have seen and listen to the speech that the first lady Michelle Obama gave in front of the I.O.C the 2nd of October and read all the bad critics she got for that speech, I would like to analyse why it failed and what would be the best way to improve it.

In the transcription of the speech we can see that obviously the rhetoric and all the key words are rightly chosen, however in my opinion the part that failed in that speech was the way she tried to convince the I.O.C judges who wanted serious facts and an appropriate exposition of their city’s Olympic programme, using a too emotional discourse.
It was the stereotypical speech that American people would love, talking too much about the ¨American dream¨, about making ¨the world feel proud¨ or ¨my father was my hero¨. It was just wrong directed, she should of shown the pros of the actual city as candidate for the Olympics in a less emotional way, the I.O.C judges wanted serious facts and Michelle Obama gave them a pretty story about an American girl and her dad, she just didn’t think about the kind of audience she was giving the speech to.

Out of all of this we learn that to give a proper speech one of the most important things we should think about is the kind of audience we are treating with, and the sort of information they want to hear and aim our speech to cover all of those points and make it work.
